Joseph Palmeri of Tulsa - Licensed Practitioner

Joseph Palmeri of Tulsa has received a number of noteworthy recognition for his studies in the medical field. Among those recognitions is Joseph's certification with the American Board of Anesthesia. The American Board of Anesthesia is a community of highly respected and experienced men and women who set very stern standards of practice and knowledge before acknowledging that a resident or intern can say they are board certified. These rigid standards by the board assure that all potential patients are being handled by professionals with the utmost in-depth knowledge in their department, and helps preserve the integrity of the medical field as a whole. Joseph says that his certification from the American Board of Anesthesia was no easy task, and he was humbled that they chose him among the select few to become certified.

For Joseph Palmeri of Tulsa, it has always been a dream of his to operate as a physician in his hometown of Tulsa Oklahoma. Rather recently, this dream has transitioned into a reality, and Joseph has received his State Medical License from Oklahoma after passing all of the prerequisite examinations of his abilities. Joseph said receiving the license was like a milestone, indicating to him that he was truly beginning to live the life he had always imagined for himself, ever since he was a child. Joseph's medical license in Oklahoma not only allows him to work close to home, but even on friends and family members. Joseph says there is hardly a better reward than being able to provide high quality care to those you love, and that he is truly blessed to have an opportunity like that in his life.

Joseph Palmeri of Tulsa - The Power of Laughter

Joseph Palmeri of Tulsa says that taking yourself too seriously is never a good thing, and that developing a good sense of humor is vital for survival, especially in a highly stressful environment like a hospital. Joseph's work can often be very demanding, and sometimes the hospital is a highly charged, volatile atmosphere. Over time, this can work on even the most steely of nerves. That is why Joseph likes to enjoy himself both on and off the clock with a good laugh. Joseph is known as somewhat of a jokester amongst his collegues, and has been known to break even some of the stoniest dispositions with a good laugh. Some would think that laughter has no place in the hospital, but Joseph feels that couldn't be further from the truth, and sticks to the old adage that laughter is the best medicine, and all medicine belongs in a hospital. Joseph says that though some of the patients and doctors may be entering highly stressful situations, that it is important to remember the lighter side of life, even among the darkness. That is why Joseph enjoys brightening his co-workers and patients day with a good wise crack or two, to loosen everyone up.

JosephPalmeri of Tulsa has used laughter as a remedy ever since he was a kid, and appreciates and even respects humor as a real tool of healing in the medical community. Humors healing power becomes apparent when a comedian comes to visit a sickly child, or even an old man. Joseph says that many times, the patients recovery and success after surgery hinges on their own mental state, and that the general positive vibe and mood that laughter brings can play a vital role in the healing process. It is for that reason that Joseph himself tries to stay light and whimsical at work. One of Joseph's favorite occupational jokes is that no one remembers a good anesthesiologist, a joke that never fails to get a few giggles out of his patients.

Joseph Palmeri of Tulsa - The Running Man

Joseph Palmeri of Tulsa knows the importance of winding down after a long hard day of work. Joseph says that winding down and resting is a crucial aspect of work, the same way that a rest period is necessary after exercise. That is why Joseph makes it a point to directly involve himself in several different hobbies that help pass the time. Among Joseph's favorite hobby though, the one he is most passionate about, is competitive racing, of all assortments. Just recently, Joseph has participated in the the McNellie's pub run in the summer of 2013, an annual fun run in Tulsa Oklahoma whose proceeds go to the Chad Perry Fund, a local Tulsa charity. Joseph says participating in the pub run has become a sort of tradition, and that many of his friends and family attend. The run has become a good way for the community to get together and enjoy each other's company, and most importantly, unwind for the next big race day. Joseph has also participated in several other running events, including the Lighthouse Triathlon in the summer of 2003, a highly intensive and competitive race that features a 500 meter swim in Lake Erie, a twenty kilometer bike ride through a paved township, and a five meter run through a village to the finish line. Joseph says that the Lighthouse Triathlon is one of the more rigorous ones, and that if he was to do it again today, might require a bit of preparation.

Joseph Palmeri of Tulsa has participated in a number of running events both highly intensive, and just fun and light. Among those events is the Tough Mudder Race in New Jersey, a grueling ten to twelve mile obstacle course with some of the most punishing and rugged courses out there, courses that require a physical and mental stamina that few, if any possess without hard work and commitment. Joseph says that though the race is intense, it is also a lot of fun, and a great way to stay in shape and even just blow off steam. Joseph says that in the Tough Mudder Race, you are bound to get dirty, but since he spends most of his time in a very sterile hospital environment, getting dirty is a kind of rare treat for him, which was partially his motivation for participating in the otherwise insane race. Joseph says however that it is events like these that refresh and renew him for the next work week.

Joseph Palmeri of Tulsa - A Tutor

Joseph Palmeri of Tulsa Oklahoma has always excelled academically. His natural ability to learn, and swift understanding of coursework and material has always made academia easy for him, in places where many of his peers would struggle, and even fail. Recognizing this, and always being eager to help those in need, Joseph began tutoring during his stay at Oklahoma State University through his enrollment in the student union office. There, Joseph would help tutor a wide range of subjects, including but not limited to, physics, chemistry, and biology. The demanding subjects he often tutored really took a toll on some of his fellow students, and was even frustrating for Joseph himself at times. However, Joseph says his time working as a tutor taught him the importance of patience and perseverance, and that one can achieve anything so long as they are willing to continue pursuing it. With this philosophy in mind, Joseph's tutoring and leadership helped guide his fellow students to classroom success. Some appreciated Joseph's help so much, that they would thank him personally in one manner or another, saying that without him, they never would have graduated.

Joseph Palmeri of Tulsa also taught Kaplan test preparation classes in the year of 2004, in fields related to the Medical College Admission Tests. Joseph was chosen to teach these preparation classes because of his thorough understanding of the subject matter, as well as his own test taking aptitude. Joseph says that it was his honor to help his fellow students learn the ins and outs to proper test taking strategies and techniques, and that he wished he himself had been able to attend similar classes while he went through school, as it may have taken off much of the pressure he felt during infamous final exam time. From 2005 to 2006, Joseph also mentored an elementary student in Oklahoma City. Joseph said that he enjoyed this volunteer work quite a bit, and developing a relationship with the student had been a learning experience for them both. Joseph even likes to think that the mentorship with the elementary student helped prepare him for when he would inevitably become a father, something that he says you could never be too prepared for.

Joseph Palmeri of Tulsa - A Community Volunteer

Joseph Palmeri of Tulsa knows that when he took an oath to serve his community, that it didn't end in the hospital, or the medical field as a whole. Joseph knew that his commitment to bettering the community was not just a part of his job, but his life overall. That is why Joseph has remained an avid and active participant in many charitable organizations throughout local and national communities, all designed to help heal humanity as a whole, bringing together a collective unity and pursuit of common goals. Among Joseph's contributions were at the Bedlam Community Clinic in his hometown of Tulsa Oklahoma. Bedlam Community Clinic is a hospital designed to help treat indigent patients who can't afford medical insurance. The clinic does so by employing properly certified volunteers from local universities and hospitals. Joseph said his time with the Bedlam Community Clinic was truly a rewarding one, and that working with those that were truly grateful for his services, was a reward and feeling all alone. Joseph especially liked that he got to work so closely with the community of his hometown, and got well acquainted with old friends during his time there.

Joseph Palmeri of Tulsa would spend two years volunteering at the Bedlam Community Clinic before he would eventually graduate with his bachelor's degree, and move away from home to pursue his masters in the medical field. This would not be the end of Joseph's charitable contributions however. Joseph would go on to become a chief resident at NYU Langone Medical Center, a highly demanding position full of many extra responsibilities with no extra compensation. In the position, Joseph would help mentor other residents who didn't learn as quickly, or needed a particular bit of advice or guidance. Joseph said that the work was demanding, but just as rewarding as his time with Bedlam Clinic. Joseph says that contributing positively to your community is the true hallmark of success, not how many awards you've won or how many promotions you've received.

Joseph Palmeri of Tulsa - A Family Man

Joseph Palmeri of Tulsa has always valued his relationships with friends and family over all other aspects of his life, even his career. Joseph says that the medical field can often be a very demanding one, and it is easy to forget that there is a world outside of it, and other people that need your care and attention just as much as the patients you deal with regularly. That is why Joseph makes sure to set aside time to spend with his family, which includes his loving wife Vanessa Rynn Palmeri, and their beloved daughter. Joseph says that becoming a father was far more terrifying and challenging than becoming an anesthesiologist ever could have been, but that it is also very rewarding, far more than his career. Joseph says he and his family have been blessed with good health, and to squander that health, would be tragic. This is why Joseph and his family often go on picnics, or take trips to the beach or walks in the park. As a medical professional, Joseph knows that the time together is essential for his daughter to bond with them, and help to form a close and trusting relationship for the many years to come. Joseph also says that it is simply a great day to spend an afternoon, and it is days like that, in the warm sun and cool breeze, that help him make it through particularly rough days at work.

Joseph Palmeri of Tulsa puts family first because it is with their love and support that he finds the strength to stay dutiful in the most trying of times. Joseph says that all of his success in the medical field would mean nothing without his family to share in the spoils with. Joseph also hopes that one day, with his guidance, that his daughter will be instilled with the same values, and perhaps attend college close to home, the same way he had. Joseph says that though he would prefer if his daughter stayed close to home when she attended college, that he would understand if she did not, and he would simply have to “Get over it” as his friends like to tell him. Joseph says that it is his closeness with his family that has allowed him to relate so well to the family of his patients, and provide them with the comfort and level of service he would hope for his family to receive in a similar situation.

Joseph Palmeri of Tulsa: Anesthesiologist

Joseph Palmeri of Tulsa Oklahoma developed an interest for the medical field at a young age, becoming obsessed with combating disease, sterilization techniques, human anatomy, and a plethora of other medical sciences. It is this interest that would lead Joseph's life down a series of paths that would end up with him becoming an anesthesiologist certified by the  American Board of Anesthesia.

Joseph Palmeri of Tulsa also says that the life of an anesthesiologist is riddled with many misconceptions. Most people believe that anesthesiologists are simply doctors in training. Joseph however, says that this couldn't be further from the truth. Joseph says that many anesthesiologists aren't interested in pursuing different career paths, and that they are truly dedicated entirely to the rather complex and interesting world of applied anesthetics. Joseph says that the wide range of knowledge needed to be a good anesthesiologist would surprise many people. Most people for instance, don't take into account the mathematics involved in anesthesiology. A good anesthesiologist knows that each patient has different needs of anesthesia depending on many factors, including height, weight, the type of surgery they are undergoing, and the approximate time that surgery will take. Joseph says you have to factor in all of these variables to find the proper formula unique to each patient. This doesn't even include possible allergies or resistances that certain patients can have or develop for particular anesthetics. It is because of the unknown however, that Joseph says he enjoys his work, as it provides a unique and interesting challenge every day, and he never feels as if he is trapped in the same redundant routine.
